St John sub Castro

Three interpretation panels for the church to be installed in the churchyard and entrance garden, telling the history of the site from ancient times. The main illustration above shown on the 'Before the Church' panel, depicts the ancient burial mounds that are believed to have once stood on the site overlooking the River Ouse and a settlement across the river.  It shows the mounds being used in funerary rituals by late Iron Age people of this region, in about 100AD.
